Recently stumbled upon an article by the late Kurt Vonnegut on [How to Write With Style](http://www.peterstekel.com/PDF-HTML/Kurt%20Vonnegut%20advice%20to%20writers.htm?ref=katecarruthers.com), his key points in summary are:  
  
1\. Find a subject you care about  
2\. Do not ramble  
3\. Keep it simple  
4\. Have guts to cut  
5\. Sound like yourself  
6\. Say what you mean  
7\. Pity the readers  
  
I realised that these are also useful tips for public speaking.
