Kate Carruthers is a leader in data, analytics, AI, and cyber security, with a career spanning higher education, large enterprises, startups, and boardrooms. At UNSW Sydney, she built pioneering data governance, AI, and business intelligence capabilities that strengthened decision-making and innovation. Earlier in her career, she played a key role in launching the Westfield Australia gift card business, now a household name.

Kate is currently Head of Data, Analytics & AI at the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and serves as a board director, focusing on how data and technology can support sound governance and organisational performance.

Kate’s expertise spans technology risk management, digital transformation, and cybersecurity. She has a proven track record in leading transformative initiatives and managing profit and cost centres. Her leadership is characterised by her ability to foster innovation, build high performing teams, advocate for women in technology, and engage diverse stakeholder groups.

In addition to her executive roles, Kate serves on boards and has been a prominent advisor in data analytics and digital transformation. She is a respected public speaker and has contributed significantly to community and professional organisations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Females in IT and Telecommunications (FiTT).

Kate holds advanced degrees in management and education, underscoring her commitment to digital transformation and security. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Technology in Sydney undertaking research on AI governance, innovation and entrepreneurship.
